morning run

tonight
got to
sleep tight

tonight
think of
morning's light

tonight
know that
the morrow's sight

tonight
will make
it all right

makes daybreak
seem so bright

will sound
so trite

I say that
I must fight

I've got to
reach new height

I think of
strength and might

I envision
the morn's run as flight

getting through

another week
come and gone

time to reflect
on how we've grown

were we able
to see and learn

from our mistakes?
did they burn

a memory
on our brains

to help us through
tough times and pains?

can we survive
all we are living

it is hard to be sure
just what our we giving?

getting through some
days is all we can do

and hope that all is
well when we are through

piano recital

the annual spring
piano recital
was today

I enjoy going
and hearing my
daughter play

she has a real
talent, a real
gift I say

and can tickle the
keys in such a
beautiful way

that's life

who knows what a
day will bring?
what little unexpected,
unplanned thing.

while I'm busy
making other plans
life goes on-
who knows what happens?

it stinks when things
don't go like I hoped
and my plans that day
have to be re-roped.

still I remember what
my husband always deadpans:
"life is what happens
when you make other plans."

13th birthday

the end of an era
is passing away
as my daughter
turns 13 today

I don't want to
let it slip away
but know that good
is all I can say

when I look back
I wish she'd stay
my little girl who
loved to sing and play

but I know that even now
I celebrate this first of May
by enjoying the young lady she is
and say Happy 13th Birthday
